David and Michael Feinstein team up for holiday concerts
From Playbill.com

Pianist/vocalist Michael Feinstein will perform a series of holiday concerts with David during December at his regular New York residency, Loews Regency.

Says Michael: "The rough theme is the Gentiles meet the Jews at Christmastime. David is so waspy, and I’m culturally so Jewish, and we’re going to explore the differences between our two backgrounds—and the inherent humor therein. Hopefully."

Tickets are now on sale at the Loews Regency website.

David presents at the 2009 Tony Awards
From the New York Times

David presented Next To Normal's Alice Ripley with her award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical on Sunday 8 June at the 2009 Tony Awards. (Is this becoming something of a tradition? He presented Patti LuPone with the same award last year.)

Host Neil Patrick Harris's introduction of David was pretty funny ("And now, coming out for the second time this month - David Hyde Pierce!"), as was David's reading of the nominees (just watch it!). Alice's speech, meanwhile, was a little scary.

David talks marriage and Prop 8 on The View
From New York Daily News

While appearing on ABC's The View last Thursday 28 May, David talked about the fact he and Brian got married (a fact not widely known outside this website, it seems!) and his anger over Proposition 8.

He spoke of the strangeness of having the state vote on the validity of their marriage: "We got married very quietly last October 24th and thought that was fine, and then suddenly the state of California said, 'No, it's not.' What we thought was sort of a private, personal decision turned out not to be. Now we find out that legally we are still married, and that's a mixed thing too. It's like, 'Oh great, we made the cut.'"

Go to Youtube for a segment of the interview, or US-based folks can watch the episode for free at The View's website.

David speaks at marriage equality rally
From Gay City News

David and partner Brian attended a marriage equality rally held near Times Square on Sunday 17 May. Heading the rally was New York governor David Paterson, whose marriage equality bill recently passed in the state assembly.

David spoke movingly of getting married in California just before Proposition 8 was approved, asking: "If not us, who? If not now, when?"

The rally was also attended by out performers such as Cynthia Nixon (who announced her engagement to Christine Marinoni) and Cheyenne Jackson and featured performances from the cast of Hair.

Visit the forum for footage of David's speech and pictures from the rally.

Accent On Youth opens on Broadway
From Playbill.com

MTC's Accent On Youth, starring David as playwright Stephen Gaye, had its opening night at the Samuel J Friedman Theatre on Wednesday 29 April. Check the above link for a full report and also lots of lovely pics.

So far, reviews have been mixed, with many critics remarking that the 1930s comedy and its May-December romance seems dated to a modern audience. Still, David and Charles Kimbrough, in particular, have gotten some warm reviews, with Charles Isherwood of the New York Times saying "Mr Pierce hits his comic marks with the precision we’ve come to expect from his priceless turn on the long-running, exceptionally literate sitcom Frasier” and Michael Kuchwara of AP writing that David is "an actor who positively brims with likability. He exudes a genuineness that informs whatever role he plays, from a stage-struck detective in Curtains (for which he won a Tony Award) to his current part as a sleek, sophisticated theater dandy."

Keep an eye on the forum - particularly the theatre section - for more AOY news, reviews and pics!

David appears in Prop 8: The Musical
From NY1.com

DHP and Nathan Lane starred in Marc Shaiman's Prop 8: The Musical, a satirical mini-show that puts the case for gay rights in a rather fabulous way, on Monday 23 February.

The performance, at the Gershwin Theatre in NYC, was part of Defying Inequality, a celebrity benefit for equal marriage rights.

You can watch a little clip at the NY1 website. As far as we can tell, David's playing one of the Bible thumpers.

David's de-lovely in American Songbook's tribute to Cole Porter
From Variety.com

DHP and fellow Tony winner Victoria Clark wowed the audience at the Lincoln Centre's Cole Porter concert on 14 January.

Put together by conductor Rob Fisher as part of the American Songbook series, the night saw David sing, play piano and wear a bowtie with aplomb. Variety called him "a top-grade clown." Nice.
