Keep an eye on the MTC website for more info. (There's a cute pic!)
David narrates space cowboy musical Stingray Sam
From io9.com
Yep, you heard us - space cowboy musical! Cory McAbee's pleasingly deranged-sounding Stingray Sam will premiere at Sundance in January and features the voiceover talents of our David.
Check out the official website here and the trailer here. (We still can't figure out if that's DHP yelling "STINGRAY SAM!" Possibly not.)
David provides voiceover for filmed performance of Forever Plaid
From Playbill.com
David's IMDB profile finally has a new credit! He's provided the narration for a filmed performance of the musical Forever Plaid. Hopefully it will be released soonish so that European fans can hear (if not see) a bit o' David.
Forever Plaid was an off-Broadway hit in 1990. It concerns a 1950s guy group who are killed in a car crash on their way to their first gig (hit by a bus carrying Beatles fans, if you don't mind). Check out the official website here.
The Forgetting to air on PBS tonight
From STLToday.com
The Forgetting, a 2004 documentary about Alzheimer's disease narrated by David, will be rebroadcast at 9pm on PBS tonight - followed by a new panel discussion which will be moderated by David.
It's must-see TV, and not because David's in it. He doesn't hurt though.
Accent on Youth opening night announced
From Playbill.com
David's next stage project, Accent On Youth, will begin previews at the Biltmore Theatre, NYC, on 7 April 2009. The official opening night (tuxes and afterparties and such) will be 29 April.
To recap: AOC is about a love triangle between a playwright (David), a secretary and an actor. It's an old 1930s comedy by Samson Raphaelson, being revived by the Manhattan Theatre Club, and will be directed by Dan Sullivan, who previously worked with David in 1989 on The Heidi Chronicles.
Curtains closes on Broadway
From BroadwayWorld.com
Curtains - the last Kander and Ebb collaboration and the show that gave DHP his Tony award - closed on Sunday 29 June. It had played 511 performances and 26 previews at the Al Hirschfeld Theatre. The show is expected to tour the US with a new cast in 2009.
The last show, a matinee, was an emotional and warm affair, as some of our very own members can attest - these lucky devils were there! Check out our Curtains page if you're feeling nostalgic.
DHP to star in Accent on Youth
From Broadway.com
With Curtains closing on 30 June, David's wasted no time in lining up another theatre project - an MTC revival of the 1934 play Accent on Youth. It will be directed by Tony winner Daniel Sullivan and will begin previews in April 2009.
According to our good friend Wikipedia, Accent on Youth concerns a lazy, middle-aged playwright, Stephen Gaye (David), who is inspired to write by his young secretary - but to his dismay his young leading man is also being 'inspired' by her.
More casting details are to be announced soon - we'll keep you updated.
DHP presents at the Tony Awards
From AfterElton.com
David presented Patti LuPone with her award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical on Sunday 15 June at the 2008 Tony Awards. Patti won for her performance as Mama Rose in Gypsy.
David's brief speech before presenting the award included a belated thank-you for Curtains choreographer Rob Ashford, whom he forgot to thank last year in his acceptance speech for his Best Leading Actor in a Musical Tony. Other presenters on the night included Daniel Radcliffe, Laura Linney and Gabriel Byrne.
You can watch David presenting, and Patti's acceptance speech, at YouTube.
DHP in 'Don't Quit Your Night Job'
From BroadwayWorld.com
David appeared in DON'T QUIT YOUR NIGHT JOB, the critically acclaimed comedy variety show featuring a revolving cast of Broadway's brightest performing without a net, at their monthly home The Zipper Factory (336 West 37th Street, between 8th and 9th Avenues) on Thursday, May 29 at 11:30pm.
According to BroadwayWorld: "DON'T QUIT YOUR NIGHT JOB is where Broadway goes to let its hair down. The late night happening of improv, music, sketches and stories was created by its stars: industry mainstays Steve Rosen (The Farnsworth Invention, Monty Python's Spamalot), David Rossmer (Fiddler on the Roof, Titanic), Sarah Saltzberg (The 25th Annual Putnam County Spelling Bee) and music director Dan Lipton (The Coast of Utopia).

Sara Ramirez and David announce Tony nominations
From BroadwayWorld.com
Former Spamalot co-stars, David and Sara, announced the nominees for the 2008 Tonys at the New York Public Library for Performing Arts. There's video at BroadwayWorld, and you can read the full list of nominations at the Tonys website.
Nice to see Rob Ashford, the Curtains choreographer, get a nod for his work on Cry-Baby. And to see David and the fab Sara together. Here's hoping David gets to present something at the Tonys on 15 June.
David announces winners of Easter Bonnet competition
From Playbill.com
Along with fellow Tony winners Harvey Fierstein and Faith Prince, David announced the winners of the annual Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS Easter Bonnet competition, which raised a record $3,734,129. There are pictures, though sadly none of David donning a bonnet.
Basically, Broadway companies perform skits and then parade around in ridiculously elaborate bonnets. Notwithstanding the fact that Easter was over a month ago, it's sort of genius. Rent raised the most money ($277,739) while Sunday in the Park With George won best bonnet.
David parties on down at The Country Girl opening
From BroadwayWorld.com
Mike Nichols' revival of The Country Girl opened on Sunday 27 April; it stars Morgan Freeman, Frances McDormand and Peter Gallagher. (There are family members we would trade for tickets.)
David presuambly saw the show - at any rate there are pictures of him at the after party, along with the starry likes of Ellen Barkin, Denis Leary and Marsha Mason (Sherry!).
David to narrate musical comedy
From TheaterMania.com
David will provide the narration for a new production of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying, which will run from 24 April to 11 May at the White Plains Performing Arts Centre in Westchester, NY.
It's by the same guy who wrote Guys and Dolls and is apparently a satire of big business. It follows J. Pierrepont Finch, a lowly window washer, who climbs the corporate ladder with the help of a handbook called - you guessed it - How To Succeed In Business Without Really Trying.
Of course, David will still be appearing in Curtains during How to Succeed's run, but his narration will still be heard every night, much like John Cleese playing God in Spamalot.
The show won't go on (beyond 29 June)
From Playbill.com
Remember what we were saying about having all summer to catch Curtains? Well, news just broke that the show will actually close at the end of June. A pity, and a mystery, really, given that the cast just extended their contracts, and since the show's apparently the eighth best seller on Broadway.
So long Curtains! You were fun, and you featured some wonderful performances. Here's hoping David and the rest of the company go on to enjoy great work in other projects.
(Yes, our headline is horrible, but it took us everything we had not to write 'It's curtains for Curtains'.)
Curtains principals extend contracts to August
From Playbill.com
David had already announced his intention to stay in his Curtains role till 31 August. Now original cast members Debra Monk, Karen Ziemba, Jason Danieley, Edward Hibbert, John Bolton, Michael X. Martin, Michael McCormick, Noah Racey and Megan Sikora have all extended their contracts till Labour Day weekend too.
So basically, we've all summer to catch Curtains in its original glory. (Only Jill Paice and Ernie Sabella have moved on; they've been replaced by Erin Davie and Gerry Vichi.)
David attends In the Heights opening
From TheaterMania.com
Lots of folks turned out to welcome off-Broadway musical In the Heights to - well, Broadway. David was there, and former Lady in the Lake Sara Ramirez, and Edward Hibbert (we love his rose tinted specs). Lots of nice pictures of this event floating around the Broadway cyberspace.
David in pilot episode of Broadway talk show
From BroadwayWorld.com
David was the first guest on the new BroadwayWorld streamed chat show, Flirt with Haviland Stillwell. (HS is a Broadway actress. Is it just us or is her name really hard to say?)
Really nice interview, actually. Some interesting stuff in there about The Simpsons, doing adverts and his decision to come out.
